Admins can rearrange the order and/or hierarchy of items (spaces, resources, and services) in Event Scheduler in order to list them in a preferred order or group spaces, resources, or services by building, floor, or building section. Once completed, all users will see the spaces, resources, and services in that hierarchy on the Item tab of events.
What is the Different Between "Parent" and "Child" Space
- Once a space has "child" space underneath it, it becomes a "parent space". "Parent" spaces are like folders which hold "files" (the "child" spaces). They group and organize "child" spaces, but they are not what actually gets scheduled on events. Only "child" spaces get scheduled on events and go through conflict detection, just like only files within a folder are what house the information that gets edited. As a result, "parent" spaces do not have all the same settings/capabilities as "child" spaces.
What Happens When a Space Becomes a "Parent Space"
- These settings, Can Item Be Scheduled? and Requires Approval?, are not applicable whenever an Item becomes a "Parent" because "Parent" spaces are a way to organize "child" spaces. The "child" spaces are the ones that actually get scheduled on events.
Rearranging Existing Spaces
- To rearrange existing spaces into a hierarchy, use the Drag and Drop Spaces feature. Once you select Drag and Drop Spaces from the drop-down menu at the top right, click & hold a space then hover over the intended "parent" and release. Your changes will automatically be saved.
- You can also use the Drag and Drop Spaces feature to simply rearrange the order of the spaces in how they appear on work orders.
- If you are unhappy with the new order, simply select the orange "Reset Spaces Ordering" button at the bottom of your screen.
- The new order will be automatically saved! You can select the blue "Back to Spaces" button to see the new order of your items.
Adding "Child" Spaces to Others
- For any existing space, you can hover over to the left side of the space name, click the three dots and then choose "Add Child Space" in order to add a new space underneath that "parent space".
Viewing Existing "Child" Spaces under "Parent" Spaces
- For any spaces (or resource or services) that already are set within a hierarchy, you will need to click on the "+" to expand your parent item to view the child items below to view the associations. Once expanded, you can also see quickly if the item can be scheduled and if it requires approval and more!
